Henry is 12 years old.  After his parents are kidnapped, he goes to live with his Aunt Dotty, Uncle Frank and three cousins.  One night Henry wakes to the noise of his bedroom walls being scraped and after brushing the flaking plaster away, two hidden doors suddenly appear.  Together with his cousin Henrietta, the children discover that the doors are portals to different worlds, some good - some evil - 100 cupboards in total.   In their enthusiasm to unlock the secrets of the cupboards, the children unwittingly unlock something or someone far more dangerous than they would have believed.
