Flight Behaviour by Barbara Kingsolver

This book made me look at the future of our world and the consequences of climate change, how it combines with us and what choices we can decide to make to change our ways.
Dellarobia is a young girl who married her childhood sweetheart and had two children. She is bored and jealous of the life she might have had. With no support from her overbearing mother in law, Dellarobia is looking for something more than her mundane farm life.
When she decides to pursue an adulterous affair with a younger man, it reveals more to her than she can believe. Climbing the mountain to meet her lover, Dellarobia sees a mass of unusually migrating butterflies, a "fire" - indicating a sudden shift in the local micro-climate, both ecological and personal. It is a revelation that transforms her and in turn her family and the wider community. How can Dellarobia continue to hide her feelings and ultimately the decisions she has to make? To stay with her impassive yet stable husband and all that implies or to leave it all behind to fight for a better future.
Essentially her choice is our choice.
