Woodward's Obama's Wars illustrates the intense pressure of political decision making in the twenty-first century. Woodward, with incredible access to Obama and other senior White House and US military figures, brings to life Obama's turmoil over the decision to send an additional 30,000 US troops to Afghanistan. He displays with honesty the diversity of opinions between military and government officials that divided the Obama administration and at times led to outright hostility and name-calling.
Woodward constructs for the outsider a view of what goes on inside the Oval Office, the situation room and the Pentagon when the most powerful nation confronts a losing war and a President defines his legacy.
