The One Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson

This is a debut novel from Swedish author Jonas Jonasson and has been a great success in Europe before being translated into English. This book capitvated me from the start, and didn't disappoint as it unfolded.
The main character, Allan Karlsson, runs away from his nursing home on the day that he turns 100 years old and, through absurd coincidences, lives an unbelievable adventure with a most unusual group of friends he makes along the way. The story moves from the current adventure, to his past experiences taking us through some important historic events from the 20th century.
The cleverness of the plot and the creative linking of Allan to important political leaders and key events in history, make this book a delight to read, despite its absurdities, or maybe because of them. It is very refreshing to have such a different, entertaining and captivating book as this one reaching our bookshelves. If you're looking for something light and funny but with an intelligent trip through history, this is a book not to be missed.
