London: Printed for J. Debrett 1789. 8vo. Later qtr. oasis. Spine with raised bands. (viii iv 146 iipp.). Uncut. The "Narrative" the very first published book of the Settlement at Port Jackson was issued on 24 April 1789. It sold out instantly and a second printing was immediately produced. The copy here offered collates faithfully to Ferguson 49 including the extremely scarce half-title page as well as the Debrett's advertisement leaf at end of text. NOTE: It is the first authentic First-Hand Account of the new settlement written by one of the participants. Tench was in charge of the Marine who sailed to the infant colony with the "first fleet" and his journal is a very important record of life in New South Wales in its first days.
