Illustrated by Tuffen West with 62 monochromatic lithographic plates and 8 in colour (two frontispieces and five plates at the end of the second volume lettered A to E). Considerable foxing to both front and rear pages in both volumes otherwise fine condition. NOTE: A scarce copy of Reverend Wiliam Smtih's study beautifully illustrated by Tuffen West (1823-1891) described as the most famous botanist/artist of the microscopic of his time. Original illustrations of diatoms with magnification levels.
