NOTE: The translator states that he believed there were only two copies of Sonnerat's original French edition in England and that he got a friend to procure a copy in Paris translating the more interesting parts of it. At the end (xlvi pp.) he gives a catalogue of birds with identifications and notes. The imprint on the title-page states that the orig. French edition appeared in Paris in 1775 whilst in fact it did not appear until 1776. The English translation is seldom seen.
