London: Printed and Published by J. Cross 1826. 8vo. Bound in contemp. half calf (rubbed) with the orig. printed wrappers preserved and bound-in at end of text. T.e.g. other edges uncut. (viii 146 2pp.). With half-title page errata-slip after the title page 3 coloured full-page aquatint plates (foxed) 1 full-page b/w plate and advert. leaf at end. This rare treatise was issued in two forms: (a) without the folding view and map @ seven shillings; and (b) with the view and map @ fourteen shillings; the copy here offered is the first - see Ferguson 1054. NOTE: James Atkinson agriculturalist and pastoralist arrived in New South Wales in 1819. In July 1822 he obtained two grants of land in the Bong Bong district one of 800 acres (called Oldbury) and another of 700 acres (Mereworth) about 3 miles from Berrima. Whilst in England in 1825 in response to innumerable questions and enquiries respecting agriculture and grazing in New South Wales he published the work here offered. In 1827 Atkinson married one of the Colony's more remarkable women Charlotte Waring who in 1841 wrote the first Australian book for children. His youngest daughter was the novelist and botanist Louisa Atkinson.
