NOTE: During his lifetime Alfred Armand Louis Marie Velpeau (1795-1867) was responsible for the publication of over 340 titles on surgery anatomy obstetrics and embryology. He is credited with providing the first accurate description of Leukaemia in 1825 and created the Velepeau bandage which immobilized the arm and shoulder following a fracture or dislocation.
