NOTE: Lowe 1828-1908, served 5 years in the 1st U.S. Dragoons rising to the rank of 1st Sergeant, thus this is one of the few accounts by enlisted men of life in the pre Civil War Army. Afterwards, he served 5 years as a civilian in the Quartermaster's Department, including the Cheyenne Campaign of 1857 and the "Mormon War" in 1858.
