With frontisp. 4 full-page plates and the Journal entirely reproduced in faithful facsimile from the author's hand-written original held in The Royal College of Surgeons of England. Ed. lim. to 500 numbered copies only fully signed "G.P. Darwin". Orig. prospectus loosely inserted. Fine. NOTE: In 1859 Charles Darwin published his "On the Origin of species by Means of Natural Selection" which was to establish him as one of the pre-eminent figures of the 19th century. The observations which provided the foundation for one of the most revolutionary theories ever put forward had been carried out by the author more than twenty years before and are recorded in this Journal.
