With portrait & protective tissue guard, 30 text-maps and illusts. after sketches by Gordon, a full-page map, and a fold. map at end (repaired). Ex-library copy. NOTE: Charles George Gordon (1833-1885) was a famous British Officer who was killed at Kartoum, in the Sudan, in late January 1885, after a long siege by the Mahdi. Before Kartoum fell, Gordon managed to send his journals, covering the period Sept. 10th to Dec. 14th 1884, down the Nile and thus into publication.
